Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) and Lafayette Utilities System (LUS), in partnership with the Bayou Vermilion Preservation Association (BVPA), each year hosts the Rain Barrel Eco-Art Contest! Students from six Lafayette area middle schools transformed rain barrels into eco-themed art to raise awareness about using barrels to conserve water, reduce stormwater runoff from residents’ properties, and reduce pollutants that travel to waterways.
Barrels will be displayed at Acadiana Center for the Arts.
In partnership with Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG), the Bayou Vermilion Preservation Association, the Acadiana Center for the Arts, and AOC Community Media hosts the Storm Drain Art Program each year.
There are more than 1000 storm drains and Lafayette and with the Storm Drain Art Program we can call attention to watershed protection and educate our community that all drains lead to the Vermilion.
Lafayette Garden Club and Lafayette Consolidated Government work with local schools for anti-litter education such as the Lafayette Parish “poster contest” and the “cleanest schools contest”. Since 2016, BVPA has supported these school engagement and pollution prevention efforts with cash prizes. Students who participate and place in the poster contest receive prize money directly.
Schools who participate and win the Cleanest Schools Contest are awarded monies to be used for a “clean/green” item or project for the school.
The Anti-Litter Contest’s mission is to educate students on the importance of litter reduction and to create more interest in projects that enhance our landscape. This poster contest goes hand in hand with Louisiana’s Cleanest City contest and winning posters will be displayed for the district and state judges, showcasing Lafayette students’ perspectives for a litter free and healthy community.
This contest is a joint effort between Lafayette Consolidated Government, Lafayette Garden Club, BVPA, and Parish Proud.
